Funny Things Kids Say

Beth and I talk about the funny little things that Christopher says that will just fade away someday, and we’ll miss some of those things. Other definitely need to be fixed. Here are a few of our favorites:

  • “Christopher, did you feed the pets?” – “Not” rather than “No”.
  • While playing Mario Cart on the beech map – “Oh the bitch ate me!” as his car gets swallowed up in the sand (One of those we need to fix on the sooner end).
  • “How’s you going there dad?” That’s the greeting I get everyday as he gets off the bus. As his English grammar gets better, those little English says that used to be poorly said will be lost. They’re fun for now.
  • “Persure” Besides “Not” this is the oldest thing Christopher says. It started in the Philippines. Toph asked me a question and when I gave him an answer and he asks, then and today, “Are you sure?” and the answer I gave was that “I’m 100 percent sure”. His English being what it was heard “I’m 100 persure”. Now everyone in the family reaffirms their statements with “100 persure”. I think that one will stick around a little while.
  • “Destroy” has been a fun new word that is completely mixed up with what he actually means. The other night he said he was going to “destroy the cat” with the string. Anyone take a guess at what he actually meant? … What he meant to say was he was going to distract the cat. It’s been fun to hear about how many things are destroying him lately. It seemed distressing to hear at first, but once we finally figured out what he was trying to say it suddenly became funny. Since he feeds of being funny you have to be careful on what you react to because we don’t really want him at school talking about how the kids are destroying this that and the other.
  • Rubberbelly: This came to be when he was going to rub the dog’s belly. Now he says “Roscoe you want some rubberbelly?”

I know there are a bunch more but I haven’t posted a while and this is one of the funny little things about have an English learner in the house, native or otherwise.
